In another case, somnolent and swollen, I saw a rare golden hith, a Gorean python whose body, even when unfed, it would be difficult for a full-grown man to encircle with his arms.

...In one cage, restlessly lifting its swaying head, there coiled a great, banded horned hith, Gor's most feared serpentine constrictor. It was native only to certain areas of the forests....

[ The Sardar Fair ]
-Somewhere on the long central avenue lined with booths, tents, stalls, pavilions and stockades...-
says to ALL: I slide out of the wagon, retrieving my coin pouch from the harness of one of my sleen, as anyone willing to reach in there to try and steal my coin would be leaving something behind instead of taking something with them. I scratch Stimpy's neck as I take the pouch. I was considering the Minus contest on finding the weirdest or most rare item possible at the fair and buying it to bring back to Minus.

-Somewhere on the long central avenue lined with booths, tents, stalls, pavilions and stockades...-
says to ALL: I continue along the central avenue, still trying to decide upon something that would be incredibly rare, but not all that expensive since I was just a humble and lowly blacksmith. Of course none would believe that if they saw the furniture that I already purchased. I walk along the central avenue, looking at all the vendors and booths, people from all over Gor trying to sell their wares. I stop in at a few, looking over the items available and not seeing anything that would work for the contest.

says to ALL: I continue along, finding a vendor selling blackwyne beans, though they were not all that unique, they were rare so I buy a small leather pouch of them. Paying the man an entire silver for the pouch, but I knew how rare they were, and I had no intentions of going to the only place on Gor where they could be bought normally. I slide the leather pouch into my pack, and then walk along the avenue again, looking for the most unique and odd thing I could find.

[ The Sardar Fair ]
-Somewhere on the long central avenue lined with booths, tents, stalls, pavilions and stockades...-
says to ALL: I walk along, and come upon a vendor that was selling goods from the Schendi jungle, and it was there that I saw one of the most uncommon of Gorean animals, perhaps the most rare one on the face of Gor. Well not it, but its skin. The Golden Hith, a python that when fully grown would be so large that a full grown man could not put his arms around it, and it was incredibly deadly. Seeing this in the front of the shop I have to walk over and look over what is inside. I thought that something from this vendor might be just what I was looking for, something that was so rare that none from Minus would be able to best it.

says to ALL: As I get inside I realize that this vendor was not in fact from the Schendi jungles, but rather from a remote camp in the Northern Forest. I'd never even seen a golden hith, nor its skin, interestingly enough it lived in the Northern Forest but was so rare that I'd never seen one even though I lived there for many years. I thought snakes this size only grew in the jungles. I walk into the front of his booth and begin to look over his items, "Tal Merchant" I say to him as I begin to look around. He of course thinks that I am poor, since I am just a blacksmith. He does not think that I would be able to afford something as rare as a skin from a golden hith. I run my hands over it, and then look to him, "how much?" I ask as he considers my question for a moment, "well, I would need to get at least five silver for that." He says, "you will never see a skin like that again." He figures this will scare me off, but instead I scratch my chin, "well, I might be able to do four silver." I say to him as his eyes open wide, perhaps he did have a good customer. He holds up a finger, the man looks like a snake himself, long and slender, I almost expected his tongue to flick out and be forked. "Sir, if you will wait just a moment, I might have something you would be interested in."

says to ALL: I wait, looking around at the other items that he has here. I see several things that look interesting, including a stuffed forest panther, not really anything I was interested in, but I also see other animals, a giani in a cage over here, a forest urt in a cage over there. I was not aware until that moment that he had live animals here as well. I wait for him to return, thinking he was lost for a moment, and then finally he does show back up, with a small cage. Inside I see the banded and horned golden hith, a baby, no more than a foot long. It was an animal that would grow to 20 feet in length if given the right environment, but kept in a cage like this it would stay small. I could not believe it, not only had he found the python's skin, but he had found one of their young. I had to wonder where he would come across something like that, "ahh, well now I usually save things like this for my best customers, but well you look like a man of means." He says lying, I did not look like a man of means, but well once I did not blink at the cost of the skin, he thought I would not blink at the cost of the snake. The baby snake would not be worth nearly as much as a full snake skin that could be used for many applications, but it was something incredibly rare. He sets the cage down on his sales table as I walk over to look in at the snake.

I say to him, looking in at the snake again, I reach into the cage and take the snake out, letting it curl around my right hand. I'd always liked snakes, they were cold and calculating, and they did not really warm to any individual, one always had to watch what they were doing around a snake. One of my friends from many years ago had one that was six feet long, the thing had a massively powerful grip. I rub my thick calloused fingertip along the top of the snakes head, it responds to the heat and curls more tightly around my hand. I look to the vendor, "alright, I am interested, but I would not pay more than a silver for him, he is rare, but young, I have no idea if he will even survive the trip back to my home."

He says, "I am sorry good Sir, but I cannot take anything less than three silver for the animal." I look at him, reaching into my weapons harness with my free hand and sliding two silver tarn discs out of the pouch there. I toss them onto the table, "take it or leave it." I say to him, preparing to put the snake back into the cage, where he could either remove it and put it back where he found it, or take the two silver and be done with the transaction. He decides that two silver in the hand is better than a snake in the cage. He slides them off the counter and into his hand, "Nice doing business with you" I tell him and then I take the cage in my hand, walking back towards the mouth of his booth.

I say considering, that was just about the only place on Gor that I'd never been. I walk along with you, heading back towards my wagons so I could set the cage with the snake in it in my personal wagon. I wondered what pomme would do when she woke up to find a snake in the wagon with her. We finally reach my wagon and I slide the cage into the tent set up on the back of it. I could also see that our furniture had been delivered, the things that pomme and I found the other night at another booth. The two empty wagons were nearly full with all the things that we bought. I then walk towards the central tent with you. Heading inside to see who was here tonight.
