Blacksmith of Minus
[ Commerce District ]
-At the Blacksmith's, where all manner of weaponry and slave accoutrements can be purchased or ordered, the stench of flesh and white hot metal ripe in the air....-
says to ALL: Checks out the forge here at the fair, looking around just a bit. I considered talking to the smith in charge of the place, to see if I could rent it out while visiting.

says to ALL: I look around a bit at the various stalls, the blacksmith's would be a very busy place at the fair, many slaves coming in for brands, collars being made and attached, weapons being ordered and worked on. I could feel the heat baking off the fires, I could see that this forge was all set up with thralls to work the billows and keep the furnaces stoked with wood, several blacksmiths were at work as well. I walk over to one, a huge man with a bald head. "Tal Smith! Who would I speak to about renting a furnace and anvil here?" I ask him, he does not look up immediately as he continues to work on the steel banded collar he is making. Finally when he quenches it he looks up to me and grins, "Well, the guy you would speak to is old Ironhide." He says with a grin and a knowing wink.

says to ALL: I shrug my massive shoulders at the old bald smith, and then he sets down his hammer and points with a gloved hand towards the center of the forge area. I see a huge man, nearly as wide as he is tall, he'd been burned terribly at some point, his entire face was one mass of scar tissue. He almost looked as though he was made of iron instead of skin, that would explain either his name or nickname, I considered that the smith I was talking to might have been giving me a hard time, not wanting any competition for business at the fair. If indeed the man went by the name Ironhide I would allow him to tell me that. I nod at the big bald smith, and he goes back to working on the steel collar. I then begin to walk across the area, there must be at least a dozen furnaces here in this massive metal works. Several of them were full, but I could see that at least two or three were cold and empty, that would mean no one was using them at the moment.

says to ALL: I walk over towards the huge slab of a man that was apparently Ironhide. I see that he is engaged in a conversation with another of the smiths here at the forge and so I allow him to finish that conversation before approaching him. "Tal, I am Exavier Exeter, humble blacksmith of the town of Minus, here visiting the fair to pay homage to the Priest Kings." I say to him, he would not need to know my history, only that I was like him, a smith by trade. He looks over towards me as if sizing me up for a moment and then holds out his hand, in standard Gorean fashion. "Ibrahim Gaunt." He says shaking my hand, "But everyone around here calls me Ironhide." His grip was firm, his hands as calloused as mine from all the hours spent in the forge. I release his and and nod, "Well met Ironhide."

says to ALL: I'd brought all the equipment to do brands, and my personal hammers but that was it. If I was going to work here I would need to rent out a fully furnished shop, which it looked like the three that were still empty were. I look around for a few moments and then look back to Ironhide. Up close I could see that he must have been in some sort of a fire, perhaps a forge that he was in burned down or something, every exposed inch of his flesh I could see was nothing but a mass of scar tissue, almost like the flesh had been melted and then forged anew. "So, I would like to find out how much it would cost to rent one of your forges, complete with thralls to work the billows and build and maintain the fire, and all the tools, except for the hammers, I brought my own." He considered this for a moment, scratching his chin, then he replies, "yeah, I don't like using anyone else's hammers either, it is just not the same, it is almost like your hand wears a groove in the handle."

says to ALL: I grin and nod, agreeing with him on that account. I'd not brought any weapons with me inside the fair beyond an axe that I would use to show people my work. It was an axe that I'd just made for myself a hand ago or so. That was across my back, handle coming out over my left shoulder. The hammers I had were back in my wagon, along with my branding irons. "I would be interested in using a forge for the duration of the fair, and also a branding rack in case I find anyone in need of a brand for their slave." He seems to consider this, I could tell that the smiths working here were from all over, pilgrims much like myself. Most smiths would not have anything like the resources that I had at my disposal, on the whole they were usually illiterate and poor, which did not describe me well at all.

says to ALL: He looks over to me and says, "10 copper for the week, or 20 percent of what you make while you are working out of here." He of course figured that I would go with the 20 percent route, since most smiths did not carry much in the way of coin on them, but well I'd brought plenty of coin with me to the fair. I had a very good business dealing with a merchant recently and so I was not concerned about the coin. I pull out my copper coin pouch, one that was within easy reach, unlike the one with gold and silver in it that was tucked further up underneath my weapons harness where it could not be snagged by a pickpocket or something. I count out the copper coins in my huge hand and then give them to old Ironhide. He nods and directs me to stall number seven. "Alright, I will need for the fires to be stoked and ready, and have a thrall standing by to work the billows when I am ready to work." He agrees to that as well and we shake one more time, thus sealing the deal for the use of the forge for the next hand and a half. I release his hand and nod to him, "it was nice doing business with you Ironhide."
