says to ALL: I was in the Exeter Metal Works, I'd received a missive that Kale was looking for a pair of earrings for Cidka and would like her ears pierced. For this reason I had set out a few tools in the studio, when working with gold there was no reason to be out in the main part of the forges. I had taken a small gold bar and shaved off enough to make the earrings with and I had a mold and a few other tools available. I had a small crucible that could be used for my melting purposes and I had one of the braziers that I usually used to heat up brands that would be more than sufficient to melt the gold down. I set the gold shaving into the small crucible and then set it into the brazier so that it can start to heat up. This was delicate work but I was in the open aired studio second of the forge so it was nice and bright. There was a small workbench that held the mold that would be used to create two hoop earrings.

says to ALL: I was not wearing any gloves or any of my normal garb that I needed in the forge, there would be no sparks here nor any temperatures that were not within normal ranges. The small crucible had a steel bar sticking off it so I was able to move it back and forth slowly, heating the gold but making sure not to burn it. Pure gold melted at a relatively low temperature and so within a few ihns it was already starting to become a liquid. The small rivulets of gold began first and then the remainder of the piece of gold disappeared into the fluid. I kept moving the crucible back and forth very slowly heating it evenly. Once I was sure that it was warm enough and was completely liquid I pluck the crucible from the brazier and turn around towards the mold. Pouring very slowly and carefully into the small mold. It did not take much to fill each of the sections of the mold and I filled them right to the spot where they needed to be, not wanting to waste any of the precious metal.

says to ALL: The mold full I was able to quench the remainder of the gold in the crucible in cold water, this would allow the gold to flake off into the water to be retrieved later. It would not really take all that long for the small amount of gold in the mold to cool and I would want it to be somewhat warm for the next step of the process anyway. Covering the brazier again so that it would eventually go out I turn back to the work bench and crack open the mold so that I can see the earrings inside. It does not take more than a moment to pry both of them out of the mold and I can see that they have formed in a way that would make them usable. They would actually bend in the center so that they could be closed upon being slid into the lobes of Cidka's ears. Each of the hoops had one area where it was a bit more thin, which would then slide into the other side to lock the hoops together. I take the first earring in my large calloused hands and turn it slowly, taking a small steel punch and sliding it up into the end of the hoop earring that would be wider and therefore would accept the thin part for it to lock together. Hollowing that part out so that it was perfect, I then move to the other earring and do the same. Now they were both ready but I would do a bit more work on them.

says to ALL: Once I had made the overall shape of the hoop earrings I then began to grind down the sides of them, with just a hand held grinder, taking off the little burrs where the edge of the mold was so that they would be perfectly round and smooth. This only takes a moment as they are both relatively small pieces of metal and the gold is still somewhat soft. I hold both of the earrings up in the light for a few moments to make sure that they are round and then I check to make sure both of them will bend well enough for me to place them in Cidka's ears without ruining the perfect roundness of the hoops themselves. I then take another small tool and begin to work some designs into the hoops themselves, engraving them to make them unique. The tool was more like a stamp than anything, most people would probably not believe that I had the ability to scroll like this with such accuracy and precision since I was a big man. I do first one earring and then another. I felt like they were finished at this point and so I take a polishing cloth out and work it over both of the hoops until they shine to a mirror finish. I set them aside on the surface of the work bench and clean up all my tools. The earrings were prepared for Cidka.
